The car hirer requires drivers to be over 23 years old, and to have a current driving licence from an European country. There is no charge for additional drivers. 200 euros cash caution is required and this is refundable if there is no accident, theft or damage. Prices subject to change.

Despite having visited Sal on several occasions, hiring a car for a week meant we got to all sorts of different spots on the island. We didn't need to get a taxi to and from the airport. It speeded up trips into Espargos and Santa Maria and we could come and go as we pleased. We discovered many new parts of the island and saw more of its volcanic structure, including driving round the top of the volcano crater at Salinas and right to the cliff edge at Buraccona. The remote beaches and spots we stopped for picnics and swims could only be reached by 4 x 4.
