DO YOU HAVE A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT THAT WOULD BENEFIT A YOUNG CAPE VERDEAN?

I've been so impressed by the standard of music in the Cape Verde Islands. It's not just Cesaria Evora, although she is pretty amazing. There are loads of extremely good musicians, and there is a lot of genuine natural talent and a huge interest in music in general, with music and dance festivals around the islands. However, there is an acute shortage of musical instruments, particularly in the music school in Sal which started up a few years ago in Espargos, not far from the Hotel Atlantico.

We've made contacts with the Camara Municipal in Sal, the local council, and they are very keen to receive musical instruments, as well as books in English or Portuguese on how to play particular instruments. They have authorised Cape Verde Jetaway to import musical instruments and books as gifts for the music school. So we will arrange to air freight the instruments on a regular basis or send them in a container.

Because of the extreme shortage, the local council thought it was better to make gifts to the music school, rather than to one individual, so many people can benefit.
