HOTEL PONTOON, Santa Maria, Sal Island
Set at the entrance to Santa Maria, Sal this hotel
with pool is well placed for banks, restaurants, estate agents and
a favourite with those organising their own property inspection
trips. It is about 250 yards from the beach, the jetty with the
fish market and is just behind the Hotel
Morabessa. Good value for money. 15 minutes transfer from Sal
international airport.

Bedrooms at the Hotel Pontoon
36 rooms. Each room has air conditioning, satellite TV, telephone,
fridge bar, balcony and private shower room. There are suites for
2 to 4 people, T1 has bedroom, bathroom, and slightly separate sitting
area which can accommodate a third person. T2 on top floor has 2

Dining
Breakfast: There is a buffet laid out in the breakfast room on
the first floor from 0730 to 1030. There is a facility for taking
half board outside the hotel, and you can choose between dinner
at the Funana or Amerigos.
Cape Verde Jetaway's Comments
This is a recently built hotel
in a very convenient location close to the new Italian shoe shop.
Most bedrooms
are on the first floor or higher, with stairs to reach the rooms and dining room. The hotel is built in an "L"
shape with a pool facing south, with sunloungers, a "beach"
with white sand, and a garden which is still being developed, but
which continues to make improvements. There are mature plants by
the pool including hibiscus. It looked very gleaming and spotless.
Bedrooms are a very reasonable size. It is the only value hotel we know
with such a central position and a south facing land area of this
size, and it suits those on a budget holiday or wishing to inspect
property - much of which is in the process of being built. It is right behind the Hotel Morabeza. It is currently
at the edge of Santa Maria, and to the north of it are sand dunes.
You can see the Djadsal development from here, and from certain
parts of the higher floors you can get a glimpse of the ocean. There
are just a few sunloungers by the swimming pool. In December 2007, there were building works in the plot next door to the hotel's garden.Sometimes the water fails here and also the hot water. Tthe hotel is perhaps more suitable for those who would be out and about during the day, such as property hunters, or sports people.

The trip to Santa Maria Cape Verde was brilliant, we loved it.
The Hotel Pontao was very good and well worth the money, clean,
new, friendly. We couldn't have been better looked after. The manager
and staff very helpful. It just needs the grounds landscaping. I
dropped enough hints!! We talked to the chap who will be in charge
of the animation in a couple of weeks time. He has plans for developing
the hotel amenities in the future. We would recommend a stay there

The hotel was very nice clean and everybody made us welcome and
was very helpful. The people who suggested that the pool area should
be landscaped would be pleased as they have already started and
