HOTEL ORCHID, Sal Rei, Boavista, Cape Verde

It's difficult knowing how to classify this tiny hotel, as technically it's value accommodation as it doesn't offer meals all day, and it has no pool. On the other hand, this small guest house on the beach at Sal Rei feels more superior . Run by a Belgian and a Cape Verdean, it attracts guests looking for a different experience, and something perhaps more interesting than from the larger hotels and all inclusive resorts, and even different from some of the other smaller establishments in Boavista, claiming to be rather exclusive (which some aren't). Just outside, you can see boats moored, and the white sandy beach. There are bars, banks, shops and restaurants in close proximity. Transfer time from Boavista airport is approx 15 minutes by taxi/bus. Click here for info on flights to Boavista

Comments

For something more unusual, simple and stylish, this is a hotel to consider. It doesn't have a swimming pool, but the beach and the watersports facilities are a short walk. The Belgian owner who has settled in the Cape Verde Islands, has purchased a rather beautiful sailing yacht and hopes to start offering trips to other islands. The natural wood shutters are oiled and this gives a pleasing effect to the decor. On the ground floor are two very brighly coloured parrots who came from Brazil, and are quite friendly. The vegetation can only be described as lush and someone spends a lot of time watering the many plants. The bar is situated in the courtyard, and here you can enjoy a relaxing drink in the cool.

There are no major tour operators offering this hotel, and to our knowledge no tour operators at all, so we offer accommodation-only here, and we will help you to book your flight.

The hotel will appeal to those that enjoy the seaside location, yet, being in the centre of a small village (Sal Rei is the largest tourist town, but is not large), with access to a choice of amenities, and a chance to mix with the locals and get to know the Cape Verdes.
