This spacious privately-owned rental villa is in a very priviledged secluded position in the mature Murdeira Beach Resort, the first of its type to be built in the Cape Verde Islands. It is semi-detached, and a bit like a Doctor Who box; it is much bigger than it looks! About 300 yards from the Murdeira resort's 31m pool, it is close, but out of earshot. In the front line, it looks directly out onto the turquoise Murdeira Bay and onto Monte Leon, Cape Verde's mini rock of Gibraltar. By having many windows on several sides and high ceilings, this holiday villa is very light, bright and spacious with lots of outdoor living space. The villa suits those that like to get away from it all, without being away from everything. You can hear the sound of the ocean by day and night, even from your bed, yet have access to the island's capital or main tourist resort within 10 minutes. The bay is undeveloped to either side of the resort. It is an unique opportunity for guests to enjoy long beachside walks and swims or just enjoy outdoor living. To either side of the villa are private villas.

Villa to rent with 2 bedrooms - feel the space

Two double bedrooms. First floor: Principal bedroom with its own private bathroom with bath, shower, WC and basin, and huge balcony to the east. Clock radio, hairdryer and fan. To the west there is a landing leading to the front balcony and roof terrace overlooking the ocean, so you can hear and see the ocean from the bedroom. Ground floor: Double bedroom with shutters, hairdryer, fan, and shower room next door. Beds can be made up into singles or king-size doubles; please advise at time of booking.

Bathrooms - 2

Ground floor: Bathroom with shower next to bedroom and living room. First floor: bathroom with bath/shower adjoining principal bedroom. One of the few places you can have a bath in the Cape Verdes.

Fully equipped kitchen

Kettle, gas oven, gas hob (4 rings), fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, iron, ice cream maker, coffee machine, cafetiere, toaster, grill, electric hand held mixer, microwave, breadmaker. Crockery, cutlery, kitchen tools, table linen, picnic crockery and keep cold bag.

Dining/living

Seating for four at a table in the large open plan reception room. Outdoors: table with parasol which seats four. Additional tables for use on patio (keep one in the sun and one in the shade). If you don't feel like cooking, there is a restaurant by the swimming pool and ocean within 300 yards. The seating area is near the window by the front patio. Two comfortable futons from Notting Hill with thick mattresses; a two-seater,and a three-seater. 3 seater sofa, making seating for 8. With two French windows, the high ceiling, the unencumbered sea views, and the door window to the roof terrace on the first floor, the room is very light and airy.

Outside areas designed for outdoor living

Large patio and terrace facing west on ground level. Part is shaded. Huge roof terrace, with views right across the bay, with two teak benches and teak table. Outside shower and sink. Barbecue. Flower beds with hibiscus, aloe and cactus and fledgling mango. Store room, washing line. Two teak chaise longues with mattresses for the roof terrace, and round table, parasol and four chairs for outside dining. Additional round table in covered patio at side, and two chaise longues with mattresses for use on downstairs patio. Large terrace outside bedroom on first floor. You can eat breakfst on the east facing first floor balcony, lunch on the roof terrace and dinner on the terrace.

To make things comfortable

Egyptian cotton sheets, bath towels and beach towels are provided. Central heating is not needed as the climate is warm all year round. Because of the tropical Cape Verdean design with high ceilings and good air flow, the villa is environmentally cooled. 2 fans are provided just in case.

Changeover days

Fridays until end of October 2008, then Mondays. Villa rentals run from 15:00 arrival to 10:00 departure on changeover day.

Entertainment

Cable TV, radio, CD player (some provided, bring your own CDs or buy some locally - the music is great!), DVD player, board games and cards.

The resort was built some eight years ago and is well established with mains water, its own water storage tanks, electricity generators, roads, security and infrastructure. The villa was the first on Sal to be purchased by British people and has been letting for 3 years. The previous owners had already purchased a large number of appliances and furniture and the current ones who enjoy the good things in life, have adapted some ideas from boat owning, and picnics at Henley to making the house an excellent home for a holiday.

Have a picnic on the Murdeira beach

Only 100 yards away are a variety of little beaches, which you can often have to yourself. Pack up a few bottles from the fridge and a portable barbecue and enjoy life at the ocean's edge. (Picnic crockery and keep cool bag provided). For those wishing to catch supper, pack a rod.

Things to do nearby

Snorkelling, windsurfing, kite surfing, sailing, game fishing, surfing, diving all on site or within 10 minutes. Decompression chamber. Walk for miles in either direction at the water's edge - it's totally undeveloped. Visit the Old Salt mines at Pedra de Luma, take a dip in the salt lakes, or have a mud bath. Take a 4x4 out for a day and discover even more remote beaches and extinct volcanoes. Flag down an aluguier (minibus) and go to Espargos or Santa Maria - get a taste of the local charm and music. Day trips to other islands by plane or by boat. Shops, fish market, bars, restaurants, nightclubs, huge white sandy beaches at Santa Maria. Restaurants, shops, business advisers and notary in Espargos 10 minutes. Lawyer on site. Daily minibuses to Santa Maria from Murdeira beach resort. Buses to Espargos and Santa Maria pass by regularly. (1 euro). Taxis available from reception (5 euros).

In addition to the restaurant by the swimming pool and ocean in Murdeira, there is a bar right at the water's edge. On the island, there are many restaurants and bars - many have open air dining, some are right on the beach, or even built out into the sea.
